Shaw purchased a dilapidated foreclosure, which he noted had “good bones,” and assembled a design/architect team to carry out his vision of transforming the home into a modern, indoor/outdoor living masterpiece.
“I saw this house and thought this is exactly what I’m looking for — a house that needs a lot of work,” Shaw tells the Zillow Blog. “It was really in the doing. Not to be cliche, but I really wanted to do it.”
Poised on the edge of a hillside on Grand View Drive, high above the Sunset Strip, the home offers sweeping, unobstructed views of the Los Angeles basin, canyon and Pacific Ocean. As shaw notes in the video above, “The house is actually cantilevered in the sky over the canyon and that is very rare. I don’t even know if you’d be allowed to build that way anymore.”
The result of Shaw’s efforts is a modern home that “goes above and beyond what most people do in a $4 million home,” Blair Chang of The Agency tells Zillow. “It’s so much better than its competition.”
The sleek and sophisticated 3 bedroom/3.5 baths home features three levels of living spaces include high ceilings, sliding glass walls, a mixture of stone palettes, hardwoods, color tones and textures in grays, black and white. A striking feature is its staircase which neatly floats through the center of the house connecting each level effortlessly.
Controlled by the touch of an iPad, this “Smart-House” is wired for sound, lighting, temperature and security.
The remarkable outdoor space on the roof deck is highlighted by 360 degree city, ocean and canyon views which help to provide an incredible living experience.
