This past week, The Agency and Giveback Homes partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles for a build day in Compton, CA. The Agency’s Million Dollar Listing Stars, James Harris and David Parnes, and President and Co-founder, Billy Rose, along with Giveback Homes Founder, Blake Andrews, worked with the team to put some finishing touches on the Lopez family’s home.

Romeo and Aracely Lopez have been sharing a one-bedroom apartment in Huntington Park with their three children for the last six years. In their current apartment there is no place for the kids to play, with this Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) home they are looking forward to more space as well as a yard for the kids to play in. The families are not simply given a house, they have to contribute at least 500 hours of sweat equity on their home. Aracely joined the team for the day, and got her hands dirty in the projects assigned for the build.

“This first build day in collaboration with The Agency is so important to us because this beautiful thing we’re building is not just one home but it’s a better future for this family and the start of a wonderful partnership between Giveback Homes and The Agency,” said Blake, Founder, Giveback Homes.

The Agency, Giveback Homes and Habitat for Humanity team spent the day painting the exterior of the house, installing insulation throughout, securing frames around the exterior windows, and caulking the seams. The insulation, which proved to be a more difficult process and required a huge team effort, was donated and made out of recycled Levi’s jeans.

“The experience to be able to bond with my work colleagues and friends while helping a beautiful family create their home is better than doing any deal. We are truly honored to be apart of this day,” said David. James added, “it was a truly humbling and incredible experience. What a pleasure to be a part of the Giveback Homes family. As Winston Churchill once said ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.'”

The team ended the day with some inspiring messages on the beams of the home for the family. The Lopez’s home is set to be complete in about 6 weeks.
