Heralding a fresh, new design season, French luxury brand Hermés debuted its luxury home ware collection at the 2016 Salone del Mobile in Milan. Staying true to its equestrian roots and signature style, Hermes showcased a line of furniture, textiles and accessories all created from living materials, exuding a spirit of harmony and continuity.

The exhibit’s dramatic earthen backdrop at Teatro Vetra, Pizza Vetra was envisioned by Mexican architect Mauricio Rocha, who works with traditional raw materials of the earth to create contemporary architecture. Columns of 17,000 stacked tufo bricks created a concrete grey palette that highlighted the softness and warmth of Hermés’ leather furniture and the rich colors of their wall coverings and textiles.

The Oria d’Hermés collection features an exquisite set of chairs, with one armchair designed by Rafael Moneo in 1960 for his own home. Minimalistic in structure, the set’s charisma lies in its precise proportions and artisanal handcraft. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance’s Hermés Sofa Sellier, likened to a horse carriage, features exquisite detailing and ample compartments.

Équilibre d’Hérmes, or Balance, comprises functional and decorative desk accessories like the desk blotter, wastepaper baskets and a saddle-like magazine rack. All made of materials in their purest forms, they represent a natural harmony of light maple, tan leather, natural wicker and burnished brass.

Hermés Pippa collection again reflects Hermés affinity for fine leather, comprising furniture all made of leather, an armchair, writing desk, folding screen and even a so-called mattress.

Vibrant wallpapers, blankets, large-scale wall panels and other home textiles decorated with geometric designs or horse images come in an array of textures like printed chintz, tweed and tartan.

The elegance of the pieces arises from the perfect balance of materials, shapes, proportions, functions and even sensations of the collection items. This luxury brand’s collection of architectural craftsmanship is worthy of the most sophisticated interiors.
