WSJ Spotlights Life Behind the Gates of Park City’s Glenwild Community

by | Apr 20, 2020

From delivering groceries to rescuing the family pup, The Wall Street Journal reports security staff within exclusive, gated communities go above and beyond the call of duty to provide personalized services to homeowners. In the recent article, In These Gated Communities, Security Personnel Act More Like Concierges, the WSJ featured homeowners at Park City’s 950-acre Glenwild community as well as The Agency Park City’s own Co-Managing Partner Charlie Taylor. Together, they weighed in on life inside the gates of the nation’s most esteemed residential communities.

Homeowners Michael and Caitlin Malone told the WSJ that the security staff at Glenwild, which is made up of former police officers, feel more like part of the family. A founder of a cybersecurity firm, Malone spent $4 million to build the 10,800-square-foot home in 2006, renovating it in 2019 with his wife for an additional $800,000. Capturing views of three ski resorts, the home is one of more than 140 residences in Glenwild, which features two vehicle entrances.

Despite the well-trained security team included in their $5,830 homeowner fee, Malone tells the WSJ that the thought they are protecting him from criminal activity has never crossed his mind and disturbances of any kind are pretty much out of the question. The security team has come to the rescue of the Malone family in the past, helping the couple find their Bernadoodle, Princess Leia, who ran away during a fireworks display a few years back. The staff also clamps down on construction noise from the neighbors.

“There’s some exclusivity in living behind a gate,” Charlie tells the WSJ. “Costs for the added security are typically included in maintenance packages, which vary from several hundred to several thousand dollars a month.”

Charlie currently represents the stunning 7495 Purple Sage residence within the gates of Glenwild along with Jake Doilney. In addition to stellar security services, he notes that Glenwild residents enjoy absolute privacy and serenity, sweeping golf and mountain views, and the option to purchase a membership to Glenwild Golf Club & Spa.
