Today we feature Larry Keele, a principal and fund manager at Oaktree Capital Management and a passionate LA sports fan, who became a resident of The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE earlier this year.

What is your number one tip for someone who is visiting Downtown Los Angeles?

Larry Keele: If you have a chance, you have to visit STAPLES Center for a sports game. It’s one of the most exciting things about this city, and it’s the perfect exposure to L.A. LIVE. Whether it’s a Lakers, Clippers or Kings game, or all games, you have to go. It’s the best way to break in a trip to DTLA.

What are 5 words that best describe L.A. LIVE?

LK: Dynamic. Exciting. Great people watching. Variety of restaurants. OK, I’m cheating because that’s more than 5 words, but my favorite part is people watching – it’s amazing to see the different crowds of people that come out to the different events around here. The Lakers’ crowd is completely different than the Kings’ crowd, and so forth.

What is your favorite place to dine in Downtown LA?

LK: WP24. I love both the lounge and dining room experience. Both are really great.

What is the one thing you’d most like to see come to Downtown LA?

LK: Isn’t that obvious? An NFL stadium and pro-football team!

Finish this sentence: I love living in Downtown LA because…

LK: I love living in Downtown LA because of its central location and convenience to all other cities of LA – it’s a straight shot to the beach, LAX, the Hollywood Bowl. That’s my favorite part about this neighborhood.

What is your perfect day in Downtown LA?

LK: My perfect day would be on a Sunday. I’d wake up to catch breakfast in the Champions Lounge, then make my way to the rooftop pool (photo, at right) with a mimosa to catch the morning rays. Then I’d head over to STAPLES for a daytime Clippers game. You have to cheer for LA’s teams. I’d probably want to go home for a quick nap after that, and head over to WP24 for small bites before I go back to STAPLES for the evening Lakers game. And after they win, I’d go over to Lucky Strike for a cocktail. That’s the perfect day.

Baz Luhrmann’s remake of “The Great Gatsby”, which brought in $51.1 million in its opening weekend, have left audiences pining for much more than just a glamorous good time with endless champagne.

“People are falling in love with Art Deco again,” Frank Pollaro, a custom furniture maker renowned for reproductions of Jazz Age designs, recently told the The Los Angeles Times. His phones have been ringing off the hook from those who desire the kind of decadent and lavish interiors portrayed in homes like those featured in the blockbuster hit.

This shift in tastes and preferences can be traced back to the talented, Oscar-winning production designer Catherine Martin, who created the stunning period sets seen throughout the movie. In order to stage the picnic that Jay Gatsby hosts on the floor of his ballroom, “We brought in a garden bench and filled it and the floor with velvet, satin and silk pillows,” she describes.

Martin is also credited with designing the Fitzgerald Suite at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, a nod to the film’s iconic characters as well as Fitzgerald himself who was known to frequent the 5th Avenue mainstay. This 700-square-foot space (priced at $2,795 a night plus tax) includes all the over-the-top furnishings that you would expect to find after reading the book or seeing the movie, along with transformative decor that channels 1920s New York at every turn. Of special note is the suites library nook containing all the authors complete collection of works and (not surprisingly) a built-in bar.

Although born in Mexico City, I was basically raised in Bel Air. From the age of 6, I lived right around the corner from the Glen Centre and now, a few decades later, I still live right around the same corner with my own family. It’s so peaceful living up in the hills away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

On a perfect day in my neighborhood, I wake up early and get dressed in the dark while the whole family remains asleep. Driving to Mountain Gate Country Club, I take a second to appreciate the solitude of an empty 405. As Los Angeles slowly stirs, I spend the early morning hitting some golf balls and taking in the views.

As the day warms up, I put away my clubs and meet my family for brunch at the Glen Deli, where we’ve been regulars coming forever. After a big meal, we like to walk around the Glen Centre, and pop into a few of the shops. I take the girls to Fresh Paws of Bel Air and let them pick out treats to bring home for the dogs, while I try some shades at the Optical Connection. My daughters love to stop by Charlie’s Pantry before we go so they can pick up something sweet from the bakery.

If we venture out for the day, we might check out an exhibit, or just walk the beautiful grounds of the Getty Museum. It’s so nice to spend the day there and take in all that it has to offer. And before you even know it, it’s already getting dark!

Don’t be surprised to find us right back at the Glen Centre for dinner, having sushi at Sushi House Unico (a family favorite and place that we can always agree on). The food is delicious and the staff there know our orders by heart. If the night is still young and my wife and I want to have a little fun, we might drop off the kids and meet a few friends at the Bel Air hotel for drinks. We enjoy it there- the hotel is classically elegant and perfectly convenient.

I have this bizarre olfactory response when I smell the orange blossoms in early spring. It triggers the taste of my favorite raw honey, the feel of seersucker blazers, and espadrilles. As I wipe the pollen off my patio chairs and get ready to spend the late afternoons with friends, my mouth waters and does a micro pucker as I think about this year’s Rosé releases from France.

It is this time of year, as the weather begins to heat up, when Saturday pool parties with great food, good friends, and sexy music fill the calendar, and impromptu meals take place outside. I call my favorite wine store to see if the latest shipment of French Rosés are ready for me to pounce on. Rosés have been basking in the glory for the past decade on the East Coast, most notably The Hamptons, but are a staple wine all over the world.

Why is Rosé so amazing? Simple, it’s one of the most versatile food wines out there. Many of the imported Rosés are lower in alcohol, so it can be sipped, almost gulped, without getting totally inebriated, (but it does happen frequently). Rosés are light, dry, have floral aromatics, and can be full of fresh red fruit to the taste, depending on the region. For a more fruity but also dry Rosé, try a Italian rose (Rosato) or one from Spain (Rosado).

A great bottle of French Rosé from Provence can be as low as $15.00 (so buy a couple of cases). It’s perfect for parties. People who don’t like white wine and find it too hot outside to drink a red, do just great with a Rosé. Off to a brunch or dinner party and want to bring something different then a bottle of Veuve? Show up with a couple bottles of Rosé and watch your European friends smile. No doubt, the Rosé will be the first to disappear. It goes great with grilled fish, paella, burgers or just about any pasta. Plus, you look beautiful drinking this glistening, deliciously dry pink wine.

Tiffanie Cheng is a junior at USC where she is double majoring in Political Science and Public Relations with a minor in Cinematic Arts. While Cheng lives full-time on the USC campus, The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE serve as a second home for her and her parents, who are avid L.A. Clippers’ fans and season ticket holders.

What is your favorite thing about having a home right there at L.A. LIVE?

Tiffanie Cheng: You might as well call L.A. LIVE the “City Center” because it’s bustling with activity and events, and the sheer energy in the area is electric. I love the team spirit when the crowds show up for games, and you have everything you need for a great night all within walking distance!

What is your favorite feature about The Ritz-Carlton Residences?

TC: Where else can you get beautiful hardwood floors and such breathtaking views with those ceiling to floor windows? I’m a huge lover of natural light, and there aren’t many places where you can truly enjoy the views of downtown but still live in comfort and luxury. Luckily for us residents, the Ritz has it all.

What is your number one tip for someone who is visiting Los Angeles and wants to see parts of the city other than Downtown?

TC: You must absolutely find a local with working knowledge of the area (and a car!). There are quite a few places that have lost their charm due to the crowds so if you can find a resident Los Angeleno–or strike up a conversation with one at a coffeeshop–you can get tips for avoiding the traffic and crowded tourist traps that are popular, especially in the Hollywood area.

What is your favorite place to dine in Downtown LA?

TC: I’ve got a couple of favorite places, so depending on what you’re looking for you can pick what suits your needs:

• Watergrill–for some amazing fish tacos
• Urth Caffe–for the beautiful latte art but avoid it at all costs during brunch times on weekends
• Bottega Louie–for desserts (the macarons, the eclairs, almond gelato)
• Sushi Gen–for some of the best fresh sashimi you can get, just prepare for lines out the door
• El Taurino–cheap local tacos and avocado-laden tostadas and the accompanying spicy red sauce is mandatory

TC: With all its curious little nooks and crannies, it truly is an eclectic hub of different people, places and sights, all within the reach of your fingertips when you stay at the Ritz.

Santa Monica is the perfect place to combine the best of beach lifestyle and cultural diversity for those who love to be near the ocean. Whether its mid-July or mid-November the weather will frequently be in the 70s at the beach; however even those few dramatic weather days in Santa Monica can be extraordinarily beautiful.

Most weekends – schedule permitting, given today’s rapidly changing real estate market – I can be found enjoying one of the many opportunities Santa Monica offers to exercise outdoors: usually either hiking Paseo Miramar with its spectacular views from Downtown LA to Catalina and beyond or running on the bike path right on the beach anywhere from the Santa Monica-Venice border, past the famous Santa Monica Pier to the Bel Air Bay Club, depending how ambitious I’m feeling that day. Though many people prefer a workout at the infamous “Santa Monica Stairs” with their often entertaining people watching.

After a weekend workout, a high protein breakfast with my toes in the sand at Back on the Beach or at Marix Tex Mex – with my favorite server Joh – always hits the spot and I don’t feel like I’m under-dressed in my running clothes. When I’m meeting with clients, great brunch locations are Cora’s Coffee Shoppe – try the carnitas tacos! – or Marmalade which has everything from fresh coffee and baked goods to sandwiches to unbelievable chicken enchiladas that will prepare you for a great weekend nap!

If you’re in the mood for a more lively night in Santa Monica, plan a dinner at FIG at the Fairmont Hotel and then wander over to Bungalow, an indoor/outdoor bar and lounge that is a really fun place to meet friends – both old and new, but plan ahead and get on the list because otherwise the long line is not going to be a fun way to spend your evening.

On Sunday afternoons when I finish looking at Open Houses, I can often be found sitting outside at Blue Plate Oysterette (BPO to the locals) for a beer or a glass of wine along with some great fresh fish to unwind and watch the sunset; and if you go don’t forget to grab some salt water taffy from the bowl on your way out (don’t worry, they’re cool if you take a handful).

Also good is its recently opened sister restaurant Blue Plate Tacos (BPT), which is basically the tacos and tequila version of BPO. Another delicious dinner spot is Misfit; and don’t turn down their chocolate chip cookies with sea salt which are served to you warm at the end of your meal! For a special occasion you can’t beat Capo for dinner, which is hands down one of the best restaurants in LA.

Annenberg Community Beach House is a great place for families to bring the kids to the beach; with it’s access to cabanas, a pool with a lifeguard, beach volleyball nets, beach equipment rentals, yoga classes as well as convenient bathrooms. Annenberg is a really special place to have a private beach club experience if you’re not a member of a private club. Although too infrequent, another special Santa Monica treat is the massive striped tent which is the temporary home for the latest creation from the spectacular Cirque du Soleil which arrives in town every few years to take over the parking lot of the world famous Santa Monica Pier!

On May 19, AIA|Los Angeles will host its next home tour, “The Venetian Tour,” featuring newly constructed homes by four leading architects that are at the forefront of the new phase in Venice’s urban landscape.

The four homes features traces of the bohemian lifestyle that once characterized Venice but are also excellent examples of urban luxury design underlined by sustainable principles.

All of the architects featured in the Spring Home Tour are residents of Venice, three of which — including Dorothy Measer (her home featured in photo above) – are opening their own residences for the tour. Learn more about these homes and the architects here.

In the 1980s, Los Angeles-based artist Stephen Prina was walking down La Brea Avenue with fellow artist Christopher Williams when they noticed a bright pink ‘object’ in a glowing storefront window. Upon closer inspection they discovered it to be a built-in desk designed by architect Rudolph Schindler. The unit had been taken out of its original architectural context, painted pink and displayed as a freestanding object. According to Prina, “it appeared to us as an amputated limb.”

That moment eventually inspired Prina’s latest installation at LACMA, entitled “As He Remembered It.” The exhibit is a part of the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in Los Angeles initiative.

Prina chose two houses built by Schindler in Los Angeles during the early 1940s, which have since been demolished. Using surviving plans and photographs, he had copies made of the unit furniture, which Schindler designed to be arranged to follow the lines of the room. The resulting installation at LACMA consists of twenty-eight objects that Prina painted pink using Pantone Honeysuckle 2011 Color of the Year and restaged in a grid pattern.

Kerry Moy is a restaurateur, portfolio manager/financial advisor, and accomplished musician, who owns a dozen restaurants across Southern California, including Downtown LA’s Le Ka (6th St. and Flower St.) and Green Hut Oyster Bar (808 West 7th St.). His home at The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE, which he purchased nearly a year ago, has an open, contemporary feel and features stunning black oak floors, walls of windows and an impressive collection of artwork. The 1,303-square-foot “sanctuary,” as he once called it, is east facing and overlooks the STAPLES Center, L.A. LIVE and the residential tower’s rooftop pool.

The Agency Daily:  Tell us about the precise moment every day when you feel most at home?

Kerry Moy:  After a long day at the office and attending to my restaurants, I come home to a sense of tranquility and peace. Gazing out at the spectacular city views accentuates the euphoric calm.

What is the most common response you get from friends who visit your home at the Residences?

KM:  The spectacular views captivates my guests attention immediately. “Wow” is a common response.

What is the one exclusive amenity at the Residences you treasure the most?

KM:  The gracious service by The Ritz Carlton employee staff always makes me feel good.

A perfect evening without leaving the “neighborhood” would involve?

KM: Dinner at Flemings L.A. LIVE, a Lakers, Kings, or Clippers game, with a night cap at WP24.

Where is your getaway place at the Residences other than your own residence?

KM: The rooftop pool and jacuzzi.

With your appreciation for art, were you excited to see the art installation on the 28th Floor when it was redesigned?

KM: Very Excited. Not only does it project a artistic side, it does it with fun and familiar famous faces and entertainment.
