The Biltmore area is an upscale neighborhood and financial district in Phoenix, Arizona. It is loosely located between 24th Street and 32nd Street north of Camelback Road. You will find many mid-rise towers in the area, including both business and residential buildings. Families are being drawn to this prestigious neighborhood because it boasts excellent public school ratings, as well a selection of private schools to choose from. Many also enjoy how centrally located Biltmore is. It is said that just about anywhere you would like to go is only a twenty-minute drive. Downtown Phoenix, Old Town Scottsdale, and Sky Harbor International Airport are all approximately about twenty minutes from Biltmore.
The Biltmore area is very well known for its architectural history. A popular attraction in the area is the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. The hotel was designed by architect Albert Chase McArthur with influence and guidance from Frank Lloyd Wright. The hotel, owned by Warren McArthur, Jr. and his brother Charles McArthur, opened in February of 1929. Later, in 1930, William Wrigley Jr., an original investor, became the owner of the Biltmore Hotel. In 1931, he built the Wrigley Mansion nearby on top of a 100-foot knoll with a widespread view of the greater Phoenix area.
The Wrigley Mansion has also become a well known landmark in the Biltmore area. At the time it was built, it was one of many of the Wrigley family homes. They spent very little time in the here though; only a few weeks out of the year. William Wrigley died 1932 just shortly after the home was completed. In 1992, the home was purchased by Geordie Hormel and turned into a private club that is available for meetings and conventions, and it has become very popular for weddings. The mansion opens itself to tours and dining at its restaurant, the Geordie.
Alongside these historical landmarks, there are many modern amenities to enjoy in Biltmore, including golf. There are two championship golf courses in the area including The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. There are also many more golf courses to choose from in the surrounding greater Phoenix area.
There is also plenty of shopping in Biltmore. The Biltmore Fashion Park is a popular destination for high end shopping. Here you can find places such as Saks Fifth Avenue or Sephora. There is also the open air Town and Country shopping area. Along with the shopping here, you can also find a large array of restaurants. The Camelback East Village Shops and the Camelback Esplanade are also just a quick walk away.
If getting outside and active is more exciting to you the Biltmore area also has plenty to choose from. Dreamy Draw Recreation Area is close by and offers miles of hiking trails and bike paths. You could also head down to the Arizona Canal where many locals go to stroll, walk their dogs or ride bikes. If yoga is more speed visit the Lululemon store at the Biltmore Fashion Park for free yoga every Sunday morning.
There are many restaurant options in the area. One local favorite is The Parlor Pizzeria, known for its gourmet personal pizzas. For a more elegant take on the classic burger and fries you’ll want to check out Delux in the Biltmore Plaza Shopping Center. If you’re in need of a stiff drink with your dinner you’ll want to check out The Gladly Restaurant and Whiskey Bar located on Camelback Road.
