Rodeo Drive To Honor Legendary Costume Designer Catherine Martin

by | Feb 25, 2014

Costume and production designer Catherine Martin will be honored with the 2014 Rodeo Drive Walk Of Style Award this Friday, February 28, for her significant contributions to the style and entertainment worlds. Always a star-studded event, this year’s presentation will take place at Greystone Mansion, a landmark Beverly Hills location that has been featured in such films as There Will be BloodThe Bodyguard and The Social Network.

As set designer for The Great Gatsby, Martin “decorated 42 lavish sets, from the gilded, Art Deco-inspired interiors and manicured lawns of Tom Buchanan’s mansion to the Arts and Crafts-style cottage of Nick Carraway,” elaborated the Los Angeles Times. Her work in the film has also earned her two Oscar nominations, one for production design and one for costume design. An outdoor banner exhibition of Martin’s sketches for “The Great Gatsby” will be on view on Rodeo Drive through March 2.

After being selected by an independent group of representatives from the media, entertainment and fashion industries, Honorees are presented with permanent plaques featuring their personal quotes and signatures, which are then embedded into the sidewalks along Rodeo Drive.

In addition, each recipient receives a scale model of “Torso,” the symbolic sculpture of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style, created by world-renowned artist Robert Graham, which is currently standing 14-feet tall at the intersection of Rodeo Drive and Dayton Way.

Martin will join past recipients Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani, Dontatella Versace, costume designer Edith Head, photographer Mario Testino and fashion editor Diana Vreeland, among others.
