Sweet Somethings: ZenBunni Chocolates On Abbot Kinney

Aphrodisiac. Decadent. Sinful. Rich. Creamy. There are a myriad of words to describe chocolate; almost as many words as there are people who swear they cannot live without it. With Valentine’s Day looming right around the corner, now is the time to check out the sweet stuff to find that special someone something special.

It didn’t take me long. Tucked almost seductively inside a tree trunk (yes, a tree trunk) on Abbot Kinney I found ZenBunni, and immediately my curiosity was piqued.  I mean, how could I resist the rather unusual prospect of shopping in a tree trunk?

Located behind the Left House store and settled under tangled vines, you’ll find this gnarled, split trunk of a tree illuminated with candles, lanterns and some hand-painted stars. Visiting ZenBunni is an experience akin to jumping into a fairytale, only without the mischievous elf or wicked queen.

Inside, you are greeted by a small glass counter offering seven or eight different types of bright, individually wrapped chocolates that come in such flavors as the slightly zesty cayenne-infused Kathmandu, the ambrosial sweet and savory salted Atlantis, and the Topanga – which is a perfect blend of raw and organic heirloom cacao, low glycemic agave and a touch of salt. In fact, all their chocolates are made of heirloom, biodynamic Ecuadorian raw cacao, which is picked right off the pods and left to dry in the sun. No roasting, no chemicals, no nonsense.

ZenBunni’s chocolates are actually nutrient rich and healthy for you thanks to their organic ingredients and careful preparation. Stone-ground, the chocolates are chock full of vitamins, minerals and, best of all, Phenethylamin (PEA) – the same chemical released when we fall in love. Talk about the perfect Valentine’s Day gift!
