Time-lapse photography is proving to be a great way to showcase a metropolis city, capturing everyday moments and transforming the way we perceive them. Our most recent discovery comes from photographer Colin Rich whose latest video, “City Lights,” presents a breathtaking account of Los Angeles at night.
An official Vimeo Staff Pick, “City Lights” is the final chapter from his "Trilogy of Light" series that began a couple years ago with "LA Light" and then followed up with "Nightfall." The video shows us the passing moments we take for granted, like planes flying in and out of LAX. From office lights in the heart of downtown to traffic lights ushering in a new set of commuters, the daily chaos of our city is beautifully transformed into colorful, fluid movements.
In under five minutes, Rich guides you through some of LA’s most recognizable structures, like the Hollywood Sign, Santa Monica’s Ferris Wheel, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. All the footage is taken during nightfall so you can really see the vibrancy of the city come to life as the sun goes down.
