Celebrate Photography This April With MOPLA (Month Of Photography Los Angeles)

by | Apr 15, 2014

There’s still plenty of time to celebrate the photographic image with MOPLA – Month Of Photography Los Angeles, a collection of eye-opening events held at various venues across the city.

Tap into the beauty of social media with this week’s Instagram Jam 2014, an official MOPLA exhibition showcasing work from twenty-image makers using Instagram as a platform to share their work (to RSVP to this free event, go here.) Opening April 19 from 6-9 p.m. is The Mansion, Photographs by Jeff Minton. In 2013, photographer Jeff Minton was given unprecedented access to the legendary Playboy Mansion, capturing every inch of the sprawling property. Held at THE LAB at Siren Studios, the resulting series delivers an intimate and telling look of Hugh Hefner’s Mansion like never seen before (RSVP here).

One of MOPLA’s most anticipated events comes to us from fashion photographer David Jay who illuminates the scars that unite us all in The Scar Project, a series of large scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors. His groundbreaking work originally premiered in New York City and has since been published in the form of a book as well as a documentary, Baring It All, which recently won an Emmy Award. The exhibition takes place on Thursday, April 24th in Santa Monica and his gallery will be open for public viewing April 25 thru May 3.

Check out this month’s remaining line-up of exhibitions, projections, and discussions on MOPLA’s official website.
