The Agency Top 10: Best Farmers Markets In L.A.

From fresh-baked bread to gourmet sauces and farm-fresh produce, farmers markets are a weekend must for many Angelenos. There are dozens scattered across the city, but a handful of them really stand out – here are 10 of our all-time favorites.

1. Original Farmers Market

The Original Farmers Market on 3rd & Fairfax boasts more than 100 restaurants, shops and food vendors, so it’s a great place to start. This LA tradition has been around for nearly 80 years, serving up excellent fresh fruit, produce, seafood, ice cream, cheeses, gourmet gifts, as well as various locally-made arts and crafts. Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (market is open daily, but hours vary). 333 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles

2. Hollywood Farmers Market

Located on Ivar, between Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd, this Hollywood haunt is popular among the entertainment set and Hollywood residents alike. Stock up on groceries or come for lunch. There are aisles and aisles of meat, dairy and produce stands – good luck not finding something you love. Every Sunday, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

3. Studio City Farmers Market

This Sunday market is the best one in LA for kids and undercover celeb sightings. In addition to excellent produce and gourmet foods, it offers pony rides, a petting zoo, a train ride and a bouncy slide for the little ones. Sunday 8 AM to 2 PM, near CBS Studio Center.

4. Pasadena Certified Farmers Market at Victory Park

Pasadena is a beautiful place to spend a Saturday morning, and this excellent farmers market is a great excuse to get over there and fill your grocery needs. There are also plenty of places to snack and lunch here, too. Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 2900 E Sierra Madre Blvd. at Paloma Street

5. Silver Lake Certified Farmers Market

If thrifting is your thing, Silver Lake is the farmers market to be at. In addition to incredible produce stands, fresh-made juices and baked goods, you can find collectible vinyls, vintage clothing, hand-made curtains and much more at this colorful little market. Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. 3700 Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake

The biggest farmers market on the Eastside, Atwater Village has become the go-to place to stock up on fresh produce. People flock here from all over LA on Sunday, stopping off at local foodie favorites like Proof Bakery and Canelé while they’re at it. Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 3250 Glendale Blvd. at Brunswick Avenue

7. Historic Downtown Los Angeles Farmers Market

Downtown is LA’s newest social hot-spot, and the farmers market has been undergoing a steady facelift in recent years. With Thai barbecue chicken, falafel, spiced nuts, hand-made tamales, curry wraps and much more, it’s also a wonderful spot to find exquisite ethnic cuisine. Sundays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 5th Street Between Spring and Broadway

8. Santa Monica Sunday Main Street Farmers Market

Offering entertainment for the entire family, come here for the petting zoo, live music and row upon row of hot food stands. You can even enjoy special cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, and “ask the dietician” sessions. Plus, who doesn’t like to shop in fresh sea breezes? Arizona Ave. & Fourth St., Wed.: 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.; 2200 Virginia Ave., Sat.: 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; 2640 Main St., Sun.: 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

9. Beverly Hills

With easy parking, live music, made-to-order crepes, tamale stands and even a petting zoo, this is a fun and colorful place to stop on Sunday morning before continuing on with your clothes shopping in downtown Beverly Hills. 9300 Block of Civic Center Dr., Beverly Hills, Sun.: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

10. Brentwood Village

On top of great food, you’ll find arts, crafts and a wide selection of handmade jewelry at this zesty farmers market. While browsing, enjoy fresh-baked treats from the Great Harvest Bread Company, sample some wines, or try some of the excellent local Mexican snacks (papusas, tamales) that are available. 741 S.
