Billy Rose, Barbara Bestor And Luxe Magazine Host Santa Barbara Modernism Tour

by | Nov 7, 2014

Last Saturday, The Agency, Barbara Bestor Architecture and Luxe Magazine hosted the Santa Barbara Modernism Tour, showcasing two acclaimed modern residential projects by Bestor and a tour of the new Santa Barbara Public Market.

“Barbara Bestor’s Toro Canyon property was our inspiration for creating this Santa Barbara Modernism Tour,” shared Billy Rose, President and Co-founder of The Agency and the listing agent for 3660 Toro Canyon Park Road (see below). “It was a treat to tour these spectacularly designed homes with the architect herself (Barbara Bestor) and a curated group of architecture and design enthusiasts.”

Dewey’s Surf Shack

This house set near the cliffs of Santa Barbara was inspired by the residential precedents of Marcel Breuer and the Eames Office. The vision was to create a one-story linear system that combines abstract color panels with vernacular materials in a modern frame.

Complete with built-ins, including shelving systems and master bed frame, Bestor used marine-grade plywood for a modern and beachy look. Skylights provide sunlight and open to provide ventilation and eliminate the need for air-conditioning. The Surf Shack seamlessly blends with the beach community.

3660 Toro Canyon Park Road

sgp_4385California living at its best, offers unparalleled views of ocean, islands and mountains in a completely private setting on 160 acres of unspoiled wilderness.

The newly constructed home is designed for entertaining and relaxation, with custom glass walls that slide away to bring the outdoors in. The center of the home is a loft-like space, anchored by an open kitchen with European style cabinetry. On one side, a 25-foot telescoping glass door retracts to reveal a panoramic view of the entire Santa Barbara coastline.sgp_4651
