The Met’s 2015 Spring Costume Institute Exhibition

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2015 Spring Costume Institution Exhibit opens May 1 and will be on display through August 16. China: Through The Looking Glass will showcase how China has influenced fashion throughout the centuries with over 130 captivating couture, ready-to-wear pieces that will be paired with Chinese paintings, costumes, porcelains, and films.  

Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute has collaborated with the Department of Asian Art to create the show, which is under the artistic direction of Oscar-nominated director Wong Kar-wai. The displays in fashion will date back as far as the 1700s.  Designers in the exhibit will include notable fashion icons like Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Jason Wu, among others. The exhibition will include vignettes on “Women of Style,” as well as a gallery which explore the changing nature of China through different eras.
