Destination Bali: Beyond The Sun, Sea And Solitude

by | Jan 5, 2016

Bali is synonymous with blissful living. The miles of both white and black-sand beaches and overall notion of Zen captivate throngs of annual visitors who are eager to catch an incredible wave or seek a restorative spiritual experience. Still, there’s more to Bali than beaches and yoga. Bali is one of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands and has been a popular destination with more than 2.5 million foreign visitors per year. The 95-mile-wide island is located in the Indian Ocean, about a 4-hour plane ride from Hong Kong. Bali is part of the Indonesian archipelago, known as the Lesser Sunda Islands north of Western Australia. Blog_Bali7aPredominately Hindu, the island is rich in culture and has a strong sense of spirituality. The tranquility that encompasses the region has permeated the diverse activities the island offers. While many travel to Bali for relaxation, massage and overall pampering, Bali also offers an exuberant nightlife, 5-star dining, high-end shopping and resorts that delight the entire family. “Bali is an incredible destination,” says The Agency’s David Solomon, our Bali expert and enthusiast. “You can escape your everyday routine – get away from the hustle and bustle of city life in L.A. – and have incredible experiences unlike any other locale. From incredible world-class surfing that rivals Hawaii to decadent dining – there is so much to Bali. I’ve been returning to the island annually since 2001 and will continue to do so.” Blog_Bali12One of David’s favorite places to stay is Alila Villas Uluwatu, the 37-acre eco-luxury resort that is set atop a cliffside along the scenic southern coast of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula. The resort offers both vacation villas and homeownership opportunities and features world-class amenities and services against a dramatic backdrop: the Indian Ocean. “The resort welcomes the outside in; the modern Balinese architecture and the space planning within each villa is beyond compare,” said David. “Every request or need can be taken care of with the simple touch of a button. The integration of technology is unsurpassed, and the experience speaks to the genuine and overwhelming hospitality of the Balinese people. It’s truly an experience; ideal for the vacationer who wants to bask in the solitude of the island.” Conveniently located just 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport, Alila is also adjacent to many of Bali’s most celebrated beaches and surfing spots, including: Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Bingin and Dreamland Beach. Also nearby is the famous Uluwatu Temple, Finns Beach Club, Single Fin Bar & Restaurant, Dreamland golf course, and Rock Bar at The Ayana Hotel, a must for sunset drinks. Finally, according to David, reserve a dining experience at Jimbaran Bay. A delight for seafood lovers, enjoy a candle-lit meal prepared and cooked over coconut husk and then served while seated at a table in the the sand surrounded by Bali’s exceptional vistas. Blog_Bali11At Alila Villas Uluwatu, choose from the 3-bedroom private Cliffside and Hillside Villas, while enjoying complete and privileged owners’ access to the five-star Alila Uluwatu resort. Also coming soon are ‘The Cliff,’ a 56-suite project which will be located adjacent to Alila Villas Uluwatu, and ‘The Hill,’ a collection of 1- and 2-bedroom villas. Additionally, Alila recently opened the doors of a resort in Seminyak. Unfurling along a pristine beach on Bali’s southwest coast, the resort is situated within a bustling nightlife scene complete with 5-star dining, shopping and more. The resort itself radiates sophistication and vibrancy, offering indulgent amenities and refined spaces for relaxing in style. Blog_Bali8 Within Seminyak, there is myriad of Balinese experiences that must be visited. “You cannot leave the area without visiting Potato Head Beach Club,” said David. “Potato Head fuses design, art, lounging and fun with culinary and mixology experiences. It’s a must when you’re visiting Bali.” Also in the area are the W Retreat & Spa, many fashion boutiques and according to David, “the best restaurants on the island, like Metis, Sardine and my personal favorite, MAMA san.” IBlog_Bali5f you haven’t been, consider Bali. The surf, relaxation and beauty will beckon, but the culture and experience will inspire you to return time and again.   Click here for more information on Alila Uluwatu or click here for information on Alila Seminyak.
