The Future Is Retro: The Latest Luxury Concept Car From Mercedes-Benz

by | Aug 24, 2016

If you’re a green-leaning auto enthusiast who admires classic cars, the latest luxury concept vehicle from Mercedes-Benz might be your future dream ride. Making its official debut at Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach earlier this month, the all-electric Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is as futuristic as it is nostalgic, paying homage to the classic aero coupes of yesteryear with its elongated design, low roof, and rear cabin positioning. But rest assured: this isn’t your granddad’s Benz.

The Vision 6 boasts an all-wheel drive with four electric motors capable of 550 kilowatts of power and 738 horsepower, as well as an additional 80kWh battery in the floorboard allowing the car to travel up to 200 miles. Designed to perform like a true sports car, it features stats like 0-52 miles-per-hour in under four seconds and a top speed of 155 miles-per-hour. Additional exterior features include a “boat tail” reminiscent of the backside of a luxury yacht and gullwing doors for side entry, but it’s the interior that puts this ride in a class of its own. Designed to give front-seat passengers an open view of the road, driving data and other information is projected on a futuristic strip surrounding the windshield, with a dashboard that wraps into door panels and seats to create what the company refers to as a “360 Lounge.”

Only time will tell whether Mercedes will actually bring this innovative concept to life, but for now, you can drool over the demo video below.
