GO SEE THIS → Roy Lichtenstein’s exhibit, Pop for the People, opens on Oct. 7 at the Skirball Cultural Center. More than 70 works by the pop artist will be on display, including the rarely exhibited Ten Dollar Bill (1956) and famous pieces Sunrise (1965) and Shipboard Girl (1965). The center will transform one of its galleries into an interactive space that recreates Lichtenstein’s 1992 Bedroom at Aries, based on van Gogh’s painting series Bedroom in Aries.
SUPPORT HERE → Making Strides of Santa Monica. The 6th annual event, supports breast cancer awareness with a 5K walk on Oct. 22. Thousands will gather at the Santa Monica Pier to help fund the American Cancer Society. Grab your friends, family and co-workers to support the efforts in creating a world without Breast Cancer.
EAT HERE → Rori’s Artisanal Ice Creamis set to open its second L.A. location in West Hollywood in the coming months. In the meantime, head to the Santa Monica location to try the strictly organic, locally-sourced ingredient ice cream. Rich and flavourful concoctions, in classic and seasonal options, range from fresh mint patty to pineapple whip and wild berry chocolate crisp. Dairy-free and gluten-free options include chewy chocolate cookies, cones and a handful of ice cream flavors.
WATCH A MOVIE HERE → Mr. C Beverly Hills continues its poolside film screenings under the stars. It may be fall everywhere else, but us Angeleno’s are still experiencing summer weather. What better way to enjoy the mild evenings than kicking back with a flick by the pool. Enjoy prix-fixe menus featuring hotel classics like the Mr. C Club Sandwich and Pizza Mr. C, classic candies, gourmet popcorn, Peroni on tap, mini bottles of champagne and classic cocktails. The film line-up includes: Catch Me If You Can, Roman Holiday and Practical Magic.
DRINK HERE→ Vinoteca, a new Italian wine bar and espresso café adjacent to Culina restaurant at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. A new go-to destination for stylish locals and visitors alike, Vinoteca transforms each morning into Vinoteca Espresso, featuring South roast imports from Caffè Umbria. Open daily at 6:30 am, Vinoteca’s morning menu consists of hard-to-find housemade pastries baked daily, in addition to freshly squeezed juices and açai bowls. At night, enjoy Italian cuisine and wines presented by Wine Director Luca Bruno. His handcrafted list of imported Italian wines and local varietals can be enjoyed by the glass, bottle or by flight.
HEAD TO → The Beverly Hills artSHOW Oct. 15 and 16. Over 250 artist will exhibit their work along four garden blocks in the center of Beverly Hills. This year’s topic features work that illustrates Construction. The weekend show features a wine garden, beer garden, food trucks and family art projects.
DON’T MISS THIS → Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con, Los Angeles’ largest pop-culture convention. Returning to the L.A. Convention Center Oct. 28-30, with special guests Mike Tyson, Teddy Sears, Stan Lee, Dan Harmon and others. Comic, sci-fi, anime, horror and pop culture fans will enjoy performances, panel discussions, workshops, games, collectibles and more. One day tickets are $25-$35; passes at $70 and add-on packages cost extra. Kids 12 and younger get free admission.
TAKE THE FAMILY HERE → The Farmers Market Fall Festivalcelebrates the fall with their annual family-friendly festival Oct. 15 and 16. Featuring live music, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, and a pie eating contest. The world famous All-Alaskan racing pigs will make a special appearance, and cheer on the little ones for kid-sized, pedal-powered tractor pull competitions. The Market and its merchants will be decorated and photocut-outs will be stationed throughout the area, perfect for a social media photo-op.
GET SCARED HERE → Boo at the Zoo returns to the L.A. Zoo this month. Spooktacular events with the animals featuring a haunted cave, corn stalk maze, puppet shows, costume dance parties, costume character meet-and-greets, pumpkin carvings, and special animal feedings. Boo at the L.A. Zoo takes place from 10 am to 4 pm, activities are free with zoo admission. AND HERE → Los Angeles Haunted Hayride returns to the area surrounding the “old zoo” in Griffith Park. The site has been called one of the most paranormally active sites in California. This year’s theme is “Secret Society” and offers guests two different paths and for the first time ever, guests will leave the safety of the wagon and wander at their own risk on foot. The hayride also features a maze, the House of Shadows, a “Trick or Treat” interactive neighborhood and an Old World haunted village. Running Oct. 1-31 from 7-10:30 pm on Sundays, select weekdays and Halloween night and 7 pm to midnight Fridays and Saturdays.
