Get Spooky at Our Favorite Halloween Haunts

by | Oct 26, 2017

It may not feel much like fall on the West Coast on account of our sky high temperatures, but heat wave or not, Halloween is on the horizon. From prime trick-or-treating neighborhoods in the South Bay to The Agency’s first annual Spooktacular in San Francisco, there’s a little something sweet—and spooky—in store for everyone.

SAN FRANCISCO → San Francisco has long been known for its festive Holiday spirit—and Halloween is certainly no exception. This year, Noe Valley is the place to be as The Agency hosts its first annual Spooktacular in Noe Valley Town Square. The event will feature a hay maze, horse-drawn carriage ride, photobooth, face painting, kids—and pet—costume contests, live entertainment, and a beer garden. Don’t miss the “Best Dressed Real Housewife” contest, judged by Mauricio Umansky. Sunday, October 29 from 2pm to 8pm at Noe Valley Town Square.

REDONDO BEACH → If you’re headed to the South Bay this Halloween, agent Sharon Umansky Benton suggests making a stop at the Riviera Village in Redondo Beach. The main road in the area, Catalina Avenue, closes for two hours while families walk from shop to shop and kids get their candy bowls filled with treats, giving this neighborhood haunt spot true small-town charm.

MANHATTAN BEACH → The pedestrian-only walk streets of Manhattan Beach are a childhood Hallow’s Eve favorite for a few of us at The Agency Creates, and the streets attract thousands of kids every year. In true halloween spirit, the houses are decked to the nines in frightful (but fun) holiday cheer, and the pedestrian-only streets make make for safer trick-or-treating for the kiddos.

MARINA DEL REY → Agent Gina Blancarte of The Agency’s Venice office encourages those on the Westside to check out the family friendly festivities at the Marina del Rey waterfront. The free event includes face painting, pumpkin carving, DJs, carnival games and costume contests for kids, teens and adults alike, as well as ongoing pirate ship tours—non-scary in the daytime and haunted at night. The two-day event runs from Saturday, October 28 to Sunday, October 29.

PALM SPRINGS → For a little kid-free fun, agent Loran Arvizu urges guys and ghouls to head over to Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs for BB’s 33rd annual Halloween bash. Featuring three floors and seven stages of entertainment, as well as multiple DJs and live bands, the party is sure to spook you silly. Saturday, October 28 from 8:30pm to 2am at Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs.

PALM DESERT → Victoria Lopez, a Marketing Coordinator from our Palm Desert office, encourages animal lovers of all ages to dress up in costume and trick-or-treat amongst the lions, tigers and bears at Living Desert Zoo and Gardens’ annual Howl-O-Ween event. Activities include pumpkin bowling, face painting, a monster maze, and live entertainment. Sunday, October 29 from 9am to 1pm and Tuesday, October 31 from 6pm to 8:30pm.

LOS CABOS → South of the border, the spooky spirit is at its highest in the days following Halloween. Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated on the first two days of November. A derivative of All Hallows Eve, it is local folklore that the gates to heaven open at midnight on October 31st, permitting the dearly departed to reunite with the living. Lavish altars are made in each home with “pan de muertos,” sugar skulls, dried fruit, marigold flowers, candles, confetti and the favorite foods of the deceased to replenish them from their voyage. The Agency Los Cabos is getting into the spirit, creating an altar of its own at their offices in San Jose del Cabo.
