Evocative of works by California’s great modernist architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Rudolph Schindler and Richard Neutra—yet with a contemporary sophistication all its own—1450 Blue Jay Way is among the most exceptional architectural offerings to grace L.A.’s fabled Bird Streets in decades. Represented by The Agency’s Michael Druker and Jeff Kohl and deftly executed by KAA Design, the home recently played host to the city’s foremost architects, designers and agents for an invite-only, grand unveiling event.
“It was a privilege to work with such a talented team of architects and designers on this project,” says Michael Druker, who oversaw the home’s development from inception to completion. “It’s a special home on a special street, and after years of dedication there was no better way to celebrate the achievement than with an event focused on the architecture.”
In attendance were members of the KAA team, including Founding Partner Grant Kirkpatrick, Principal Patti Baker, Design Coordinator Steve Straughan, and Landscape Studio Director Michael McGowan, along with Executive Director of AIA | Los Angeles, Carlo Caccavale, and the home’s executive architect design team, Luis Murillo and Esther Alva of LMDesign & Associates.
Presenting a site-specific living experience that fully embraces the California lifestyle, the home’s serene courtyard oasis leads to a twelve-foot, glass-enclosed great room with cedar plank ceilings, linen finished limestone floors, an open dining area and sophisticated Italian kitchen. Masterfully designed for entertaining, the pool terrace serves as a natural extension of the interiors, showcasing sweeping city views. Invitees gathered around the kitchen’s marble slab island to admire the home’s architectural plans, while others enjoyed the iconic L.A. panorama between friendly games of ping pong in the expansive entertainer’s level.
“To me real estate is not just selling property; it’s about promoting and celebrating the art of architecture that I love,” says Jeff Kohl. “That is exactly what this event was about — connecting the artist and the collector.”
