SOAK UP CULTURE HERE – Palm Desert was the first city in Riverside County to adopt a public art ordinance requiring developers to incorporate art into their projects or contribute to an arts fund, creating an artistic harmony between the city’s buildings and open spaces. Each year, the Public Arts Department organizes a biennial El Paseo Exhibition, displaying unique works of art from local and international artists along the median of the posh El Paseo shopping district—which also happens to be home to some world-class galleries also worth exploring. Checkout our guide to some of the area’s best galleries here.

SHOP & DINE HERE – Speaking of El Paseo, once you’ve perused the art galleries and installations, head over to The Gardens on El Paseo for some good old fashioned retail therapy. The open-air shopping oasis boasts a curated collection of world-renowned boutiques, including St. John, Gucci and Ralph Lauren, alongside high-end eateries like Mastro’s Steakhouse, Pacifica Seafood Restaurant and Tommy Bahama’s Restaurant & Bar.
