Where to Eat, Surf, Live & Play in Malibu

by | May 15, 2019

BEACH IT HERE – Pack a lunch, park your car and walk the trail down the bluffs onto the golden sand for the perfect beach day. El Matador is popular among locals and tourists alike for its massive rock formations and ethereal caves, making it a Malibu staple not to be missed.

AND HERE – If you’re looking to catch some rays and waves, paddle out at world-famous Surfrider Beach, one of the hottest surf spots in Southern California because of its first-rate swell coming in from Malibu Point. After your session, walk up to the pier and treat yourself to a bite at Malibu Farm, which serves up delicious, locally sourced food, including eggs from chickens raised on the owner’s own backyard farm.

GET YOUR STEPS IN HERE – If you’re in the mood for a hike and epic views, follow Los Liones Trail to a stunning ocean lookout point that offers a birds-eye view of all of Malibu. Take a breather on the well-worn bench and savor the experience. The 2.6-mile roundtrip hike has an elevation gain of 550 feet.

FIND YOUR CENTER HERE – Calling all yogis and water gurus: Checkout Water + Spirit, a guided spiritual/meditation experience that takes place right on the water. Combining the energy of the ocean and the subconscious (and a little help from paddleboards to stay afloat) it’s an oh-so-L.A. experience you don’t want to miss.

CRACK OPEN SOME CRAB LEGS HERE – A favorite of everyone from Harley Davison enthusiasts to hungry surfers, Neptune’s Net at Malibu’s famed County Line is probably the most beloved seafood shack on the Southern part of Highway 1—and it’s not just because of the stunning ocean views. Grab a cold beer from the refrigerator and order your favorites from the extensive menu: fried calamari, clam chowder and Neptune’s Sample: a heaving plate of fish, shrimp, scallops and clams.

SHOP HERE – The perfect Sunday shopping escape, Malibu Country Mart is home to dozens of shops like Paige, Levi’s and Fred Segal—so you’re sure to find the perfect summer staple you’ve been looking for. Hungry? The Mart offers food galore, with restaurants including SunLife Organics, Marmalade Cafe and Cafe Habana. Kids in tow? Let them blow off steam on the playground while you indulge in as much retail therapy as you need.

TAKE A WINE SAFARI HERE – Explore 1,000 acres of Saddlerock Ranch and Vineyard in Malibu on a custom-built, open-air Safari vehicle with Malibu Wine Safari. Stop to sample local wines and get up close and personal with the resident animals, including zebras, camels, alpacas, bison, and everyone’s favorite, Stanley the Giraffe.

LIVE HERE28955 Selfridge Drive is set on more than an acre of flat land in Point Dume. Represented by Eric Haskell, the beautifully updated, private home by Reath Design showcases a bright chef’s kitchen with custom tile work, light-filled living room, five bedrooms, an office or fitness space and more. The voluminous second-story master, complete with a spacious balcony and custom, hand-cut Moroccan tile bathroom, overlooks a spectacular backyard oasis, replete with an ozone swimming pool and tennis court.
