The Agency Agenda Orange County: What to Do + Where to Go this July

by | Jun 25, 2019

Our picks of places to go and things to do to make the most of your month in and around Orange County.

WATCH ART COME ALIVE HERE – Laguna Beach’s Pageant of the Masters is a dazzling, engaging experience unlike anything else in the region. The nightly event runs from Sunday, July 7 to Saturday, August 31 and spotlights several living pictures (or tableau vivants), which are created when live actors take the place of characters in replications of fine art pieces. This year’s theme, “The Time Machine,” takes inspiration from science fiction and steampunk fantasies.

GET YOUR FAIR FIX HERE – It just isn’t summer without a proper fair. Luckily, the OC Fair arrives Saturday, July 13 and brings a bounty of blue ribbon livestock, carnival games, deep-fried fare and a range of nighttime entertainment. See local bands perform at The Hangar, catch high-flying motorcycle stunts at the Action Sports Arena, or do karaoke with a live band at the Plaza Stage. Just don’t leave without taking a spin on the Ferris Wheel.

BRING YOUR BEACH TOWEL HERE – Soak in the summer weather at Beachfront Cinema, a movie night on Huntington State Beach—yes, on the sand—near lifeguard Tower 14. Come at 5pm to take in the pre-film activities, like live music, games, contests and cocktails from the beach bar, before the film starts at 8pm. Bring your own comfy beach chairs and blankets or rent jumbo-sized beanbags (great for reclining). This month, catch classic flicks on one of the largest inflatable outdoor movie screens in California. Get there early to enjoy pre-movie festivities like live entertainment, games and contests, all against the backdrop of a beach sunset.

JAM OUT HERE – Boasting dozens of hits over the last decade, the Grammy Award-winning Zac Brown Band brings its Atlanta-born rock’n’roll to Irvine’s Five Point Amphitheater on Thursday, July 25 and Friday, July 26. These kind of jams pair nicely with a cold beverage and maybe a cheeseburger from the amphitheater’s Cassell Hamburgers outpost.

DO YOUR SUN SALUTATIONS HERE – Over the weekend of July 27 and 28, SeaLegs at the Beach will host the 2nd annual OC Yoga Festival Summer Edition at Bolsa Chica State Beach. The two-day event will offer more than 70 classes, over 100 vendors and plenty of kombucha. Attendees can get in some cardio with a 5K Fun Run on Saturday morning, then stretch out with plenty of hour long yoga classes and workshops. End each day of invigorating vinyasa flows with some live music at sunset.

TOAST THE SUMMER HERE – Bursting with music, local eats and fine wine from 30 vineyards, MissionFest is the must-go party of the season. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, July 13 at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano and include musical performances by Dennis Quaid & The Sharks, plus a selection of craft beers and food from local favorites like Trevor’s at the Tracks, Sol Agave, Cousins Maine Lobster and Bad to the Bone BBQ. Gates open at 1pm and close at 8pm.
