5 Places to Enjoy Local Produce in Palm Springs

by | Aug 7, 2019

Contrary to popular belief, the Coachella Valley offers a bounty of delectable produce, from heirloom tomatoes, lettuce and broccoli to bell peppers, citrus, dates and melons. These five markets and cafes stock their shelves and plates with all kinds of locally sourced crops and products—so make sure to support their efforts the next time you head to the desert.

CERTIFIED FARMERS MARKET PALM SPRINGS – Located indoors from June to September at the Palm Springs Pavilion from 8am to 12:30pm, this Saturday farmers market offers a variety of organically grown fruit and veggies from farmers in the Coachella Valley—think dates, tomatoes, apples and pears— as well as fresh-made extras like cheese, tamales and coffee. This market also takes place in Palm Desert and La Quinta.

LUSCIOUS LORRAINE’S – Offering vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast and lunch, Luscious Lorraine’s menu of sandwiches, wraps and creatively nutritious bowls are all crafted with produce, breads and wraps sourced from the farmers market. Stop by its cafe at 73910 HWY 111 in Palm Desert to try their tofu Bomb Mi (Banh Mi) sandwich and Tarragon Chicken Salad with a detoxifying cup of homemade Turmeric Milk Elixir.

WILDEST GREENS – This award-winning Palm Desert restaurant (#3 at 72990 El Paseo) gets creative with its Paleo, raw, vegan and gluten-free-friendly menu. Try their Green Eggs and Yams for breakfast, the kelp noodle salad for lunch and the bison, cheddar and pickle-topped MacDaddy Flatbread, well, anytime. Just be sure to put a smoothie or cup of organic coffee or tea alongside your dish of choice.

CLARK’S NUTRITION & NATURAL FOOD MARKET – A natural food market with locations in Rancho Mirage, Chino, Loma Linda and Riverside, Clark’s offers more than just fresh fruits and veggies. Check their online calendar for events and swing by for an energy-boosting B12 shot, baking demo or educational expert-led workshops on nutrition, cooking and more.

PALM GREENS CAFE – Located on Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Greens Cafe is the area’s go-to spot for fresh pressed juice, refreshing smoothies as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner. For a sweet (and soothing) treat, order a Vegan Date Shake with bananas, dates, almond milk and chocolate and add a few drops of CBD oil. In the mood for a hearty breakfast? Go for the Root Veggie Hash with roasted potatoes, carrots, beets, ginger, garlic and sautéed spinach…and a side of gluten-free coconut tiramisu.
