by | Aug 7, 2019

The semi-tropical climate in The Sunshine State means a year-round growing season for fruits and veggies, from the traditional to the more exotic. Mangos, guava, passion fruit, strawberries, winter greens, eggplants, hearts of palm—and of course, oranges and grapefruits—flourish, and farmers’ markets and fruit stands are abundant in every town and major city. Below, we feature some of our favorites along the South Florida coast.

ROBERT IS HERE – This family-owned and operated fruit stand and farm in Homestead, Florida has been drawing people far and wide since the 1950s. Specializing in rare and exotic fruits, Robert is Here offers a wide selection, including Asian Guavas, Keitt Mangos, Guanabana Leaves, Coconut and passion fruit, plus fresh-picked mangoes, honeys, chutneys, fruit butters, hot sauces, relishes, dips and more. While you shop, kids will enjoy the animal farm and play area, while live music entertains on weekends and holidays.

PINECREST GARDENS FARMERS’ MARKET – This year-round, weekly event, twice voted “The Best Farmers’ Market in Miami,” is held every Sunday from 9am-2pm. The market brings together the region’s top local, sustainable and organic farmers from the Miami area, Redlands, Homestead, Clewiston and Ft. Pierce. The market offers the best seasonal bounty of fruits, vegetables, honey, flowers, meats and cheeses, as well as artisan baked goods, gourmet specialties, coffees, smoothies, spices and teas. Pinecrest Gardens is located within the Village of Pinecrest outdoor recreation area.

YELLOW GREEN FARMERS’ MARKET – South Florida’s largest farmers’ market features more than 300 booths under one roof, in a 100,000-square-foot facility on Sheridan Street in Hollywood. Every Saturday and Sunday from 8am-4pm, shoppers can choose from seasonal fresh foods and artisanal creations by local farmers, artists and craftsmen. Among the offerings are micro greens, fresh herbs, fresh-caught fish, free-range meats, flowers and more.

DON VICTORIO’S MARKET & JUICES – A family-owned business since 2005, Don Victoria’s in West Palm Beach is stocked with a diverse array of fresh produce, healthy eats and organic goods, including apples, kale, quinoa and maca powder. Their delicious juices are made from freshly juiced fruits and vegetables, served alongside wheat grass shots, healthy sandwiches and desserts. The store is open 7:30am-6:30pm.
