by | Aug 29, 2019

Our picks of places to go and things to do to make the most of your month in and around Northern California.

PROST HERE – Head to Pier 35 September 20-22 for Oktoberfest By The Bay, which promises a rousing medley of beer, dancing, food and music. In addition to Bavarian beers and traditional fare, headlining the stage will be the world renowned, 21-piece Chico Bavarian Band.

GO GREEN HERE – The 9th Annual San Francisco Green Film Festival will take place September 24-29, and will spotlight more than 50 new environmental films from around the globe as well as guest speakers, expert panels and audience discussions on topics surrounding clean energy, green chemistry, food, housing, trash, water and art in the environment. The Festival kicks off with an Opening Night at the Castro Theatre and will feature programs at the Roxie, the Exploratorium and Swissnex, among others.

GET GROOVY HERE –  A free, one-day event with a stunning waterfront view, the 4th Annual Marin Music Festival is a great way to spend a cool fall day. This family-friendly festival takes place Saturday, September 14 from 10am to 5pm and will feature local live bands, arts and crafts booths, food trucks, beer and wine and kid’s activities.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT HERE – With more than 200 food and merchandise vendors, plus games, an art walk and live music, the NorCal Night Market is an ideal way to spend a late summer evening. This family-friendly event takes place Friday, September 20 through Sunday, September 22 from 4pm to midnight at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

STOMP GRAPES HERE – Get your feet wet with some grape-crushing at the daylong Harvest Party 2019, held at the historic Wetzel Family Estate on Alexander Valley Vineyards in Healdsburg. From 8am to 5pm on Saturday, September 14, visitors can pick and stomp grapes, play bocce ball and enjoy the gorgeous vineyards while being served breakfast, lunch and dinner—think BBQ tri-tip with bacon bourbon shallot sauce and berry crisp with cinnamon whipped cream, all paired with wines from Alexander Valley Vineyard.

FEEL THE MUSIC  HERE – The Monterey Jazz Festival—made famous for launching the careers of Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Steve Miller and others decades ago—is still bringing the beats to the people. Whether you prefer jazz, blues or folk, this three-day festival will have you dancing. It takes place Saturday September 27 through Sunday September 29 at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center.
