Our picks of places to go and things to do to make the most of your month in and around Palm Springs.

WE LOVE A PARADE -The 55th Annual Golf Cart Parade + Festival marches through Palm Desert on Sunday October 28 with more than 100 inventively decorated golf cart floats. It will include a “Pooch Pawrade” with representation from local animal shelters as well as a beer and Bloody Mary garden, a classic car show, food trucks and dedicated Kids Zone. 

LET’S TACO ‘BOUT IT – The third annual Tacos, Tequila, & Chavelas Festivalwill take place Saturday, October 19 at Coachella Veterans Memorial Park. From 4pm to 8pm, sample some of the area’s most delicious tacos, tortas burritos and more. Don’t forget the guac!

A FOOD TRUCK FREE-FOR-ALL – On October 13, browse more than 50 food trucks at the World’s Largest Food Truck Rally at the Big League Dreams sports park in Cathedral City. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and make a day of it—the event kicks off at 12:30pm and lasts until 11pm, plenty of time to get a taste of everything.

ROCK OUT IN THE PARK HERE – Every Thursday in October, head to the Palm Desert Civic Center park for an open-air concert. Make sure to bring your own picnic snacks and blanket for lounging—and on October 17, come decked in your favorite flannel and Doc Martens for the 90’s rock show filled with jams by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and more.

WALK FOR A CAUSE HERE – Pull on your trainers, leash up the dog and cruise the streets for a cause at the Paint El Paseo Pink event Saturday, October 12. Now in its 13th year, the Desert Cancer Foundation’s walk for breast cancer awareness starts at 8am and covers about two miles roundtrip, starting and ending at The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert. 

JAM OUT IN JOSHUA TREE –  Taking place October 10-13 at the Joshua Tree Lake Campground, the biannual Fall Joshua Tree Music Festival will bring performances by The California Honeydrops, North Mississippi All Stars, Yak Attack and more to the desert along with special yoga courses, a Positive Vibration Station with a range of interactive dance classes and chakra balancing sessions. 

EXPERIENCE IDYLLIC MUSIC HERE –  Created with the local community in mind, the IdyllFest Music & Arts Festival on October 12-13 aims to bring commerce and music to the Idyllwild area, bridging the gap between the rich cultures and musical scenes of Los Angeles, Palm Springs and San Diego. L.A. glam rock band Beck Black and Brit ensemble The Falling Doves will deliver performances.
