The Agency Agenda Vancouver Island: What to Do + Where to Go this October

by | Oct 2, 2019

Our picks of places to go and things to do to make the most of your month in and around Vancouver Island.

LEARN TO CRAFT COCKTAILS HERE – On October 19, the Art of the Cocktail event returns, bringing an epic array of Victoria’s best cocktail craftspeople, who will demonstrate fresh new recipes, and teach you how to make them at home. This year’s event will have more than 60 types of spirits and upwards of 40 exhibitors, plus it has a Parisian theme, so be sure to say “à votre santé” when you toast.

RUN (OR CHEER) HERE – Designed by runners for runners, the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon on October 13 is Vancouver Island’s premier running event and the only certified Boston qualifier on the Island—that means there are some fast runners in this pack! Come out to the course to cheer on the participants and mark this unique event, now in its 40th year.

WALK THIS WAY – On October 26 from 3pm to 5:30pm, zombies will fill the streets of Victoria. Don your best spooky Halloween apparel and join them! Participants will kick off the Zombie Walk at Centennial Square—it’s sure to be terrifying, and provide some great pics.

FEEL THE HEAT HERE – Celebrate Halloween at the annual Oak Bay Firefighters Halloween Bonfire, which takes place at 6pm on Halloween night. Kids can dress up to walk in the costume parade and even help firefighters spray water onto the bonfire using the real (big) fire hose. Food and refreshments will be provided by the Kiwanis Club of Oak Bay.

ALL ABOARD – Can you handle the BC Forest Discovery Centre’s Halloween Train? The Green Hornet locomotive will trek through ghostly scenes and creepy scary Halloween characters—pick a day and time (it runs October 18-20 and October 25-30) and prepare to be a little scared. Trick-or-treating, Halloween crafts and a haunted house will be set up at the nearby museum.

MAKE A SPLASH HERE – It may be autumn, but the Beban Pool at Nanaimo is still ready for revelers. On October 26 from 3pm to 7pm, it will host the Halloween Howl Pool Party, where kids can slip down the haunted slide tower, compete in pumpkin relay races, brave snakes in the lazy river and swim in spooky coloured water.
