For A Good Cause - Sky Lane Estate Provides Exquisite Setting For Charitable Events

Brentwood’s Sky Lane estate burst onto the market with a bang, nabbing an exclusive in Mansion Global and providing the backdrop to two-star-studded events.

The first was hosted by actor Val Kilmer to celebrate the launch of his new charity, the TwainMania Foundation. Kilmer founded TwainMania with the goal of using art and education as a means to inspire people from all walks of life on what it means to be an American, utilizing the legacy and lessons of author Mark Twain.

During the event, which was featured in The Hollywood Reporter, guests sipped cocktails and enjoyed gourmet bites as they took in the 17,000-square-foot residence’s panoramic vistas, which span from Downtown to the Pacific Ocean. Inside, an art gallery offered guests a chance to bid on work created by Kilmer—with proceeds funding TwainMania—and a recording of Kilmer’s one-man show, as well as clips from his films, played in the mansion’s screening room.

“Mark Twain can teach people today by applying a critical thinking lens to problems in our society, and by always asking tough and probing questions in order to make collective progress for America and our communities,” says Kilmer.

The TwainMania Foundation has developed a curriculum with award-winning educator Iain Lampert that centers around arts education and political science. Peroni, Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyard, The Krim Group and Today, I’m Brave also contributed to the event.

The second charitable fête was a brunch hosted by the General Manager of Roc Nation, Hank Fortener to support his foundation, AdoptTogether, a non-profit, crowdfunding platform that bridges the gap between families who want to adopt and the children who need homes. For this daytime event, celebrity chef Curtis Stone provided light fare and a summery cocktail called the Gwen 3005, a mix of yellow chartreuse, mezcal, lemon, pineapple and sage.

A perfect setting for all manner of exceptional events, Sky Lane’s design is inspired by the clean lines and interior spatial layouts of yachts. Curving exterior facades are reminiscent of ocean waves, an effect conceived by architectural designer Sanam de Loren of de Loren & Associates. The home at 12255 Sky Lane is listed by The Agency’s Santiago Arana and Mauricio Umansky for $42 million.

While its beauty is without compare, de Loren notes that Sky Lane’s architecture is also a thoughtful expression of larger goals and beliefs. “I envision homes that transcend spatial limitations by offering a true feeling of physical openness and emotional peace,” says de Loren. “In addition, the careful selection of specific green building materials, the crucial orientation of the structure in regard to the sun and its natural surrounding elements, the key interconnections and locations of all interior spaces, and the use of cutting-edge wellness technologies are just a few of the fundamental elements that make Sky Lane and other de Loren homes outstanding works of fine architectural design and craftsmanship.”

“Sky Lane is a true triumph in design and has been crafted for its residents and guests to live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy special moments throughout the home,” notes Santiago. “It is the most coveted new home to come to market, and Mauricio and I are humbled to work with de Loren & Associates and are looking forward to finding the perfect owner for this remarkable property.”
