by | Dec 27, 2019

Winter is officially upon us, and January has a reputation of being cold and dreary, but New York City never fails to offer amazing events. There’s something for everyone this month, from live music to antiquing, fine dining to educational panels. No matter your resolution this year, an opportunity is available to you this January to get you started off nicely.

Under the Radar Theater Festival – NoHo

Winter can be a quiet time for theater-goers as new shows wait until spring to preview and open, but The Public Theater’s Under the Radar Theater Festival brings new performances to life in early January. Featuring artists from across the US and abroad, the festival highlights diverse works from many perspectives.

Stay after the shows to enjoy late night food and drinks, art, and music. Chat with old friends and new in the post-show buzz after each unique festival performance. This staple of the theater season is truly a must-attend event.

Passers-by can watch the matches for free, but tickets are available if you want a guaranteed view of the action. Top athletes from around the world enter the glass cage at this one-of-a-kind New York sporting event.

Apollo Uptown Hall: The Strategic King – Central Harlem

Begin the new year with reflection and learning at this afternoon panel of journalists, artists, and activists at the Apollo Theater. A part of the Uptown Hall series, The Strategic King engages with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, and explores his influence today. This year’s discussion will focus on Dr. King’s media and political strategy during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.

Free to the public, this event is produced in partnership with WNYC, who will record and broadcast the discussion on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, January 20.
