Metropolitan Museum of Art

by | May 25, 2016

Credited for being the largest art museum in the world while also containing over two million works of art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or colloquially The Met, connects culture to the individual. The Met was first thought up in 1866 when a group of Americans wished to bring art and art education to the American people. header

Housing works of art from Henri Matisse, Ã‰douard Manet, and Auguste Renoir, the MET’s collection is vast and iconic. With over 10,000 objects being viewed at any given time of day, the MET is a popular spot for New York natives and tourists alike.

The MET offers both physical galleries and online galleries that provide the same experience outside from its 5th Ave. 82nd St. site.

Earlier this year, the MET opened up a space dedicated to more contemporary art named The Met Breuer. This subsection of the MET, located on Madison Avenue and 75th St., allows visitors to see and engage with art of the 20th and 21st century.

Along with The Met Breuer, The Met Cloisters is another branch of the MET museum that focuses on works inspired by medieval Europe. Opened in 1938 in Fort Tryon Park, The Met Cloisters shows elegant gardens and wonderful masterpieces that pertain to medieval art.

Not only providing stationary exhibits and art pieces, the MET also host many cultural events. Events ranging from musical performances by children, discussions with museum owners, and theatrical performances of Charlie Brown provide fun for children and adults alike.

Upper East Side

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located nearest to the Upper East Side. The Upper East Side is a luxurious, quaint area that contains high-end retail shops and restaurants. With gorgeous tree-lined streets and beautiful residential buildings, the Upper East Side may seem luxurious, but it is perfect for any person.
