Turks & Caicos Re-Opens as Q2 Report Shows Its Strength as a Coveted Destination Market

by | Jul 28, 2020

Turks & Caicos is once again welcoming tourists, reopening this month after a months-long halt in travel to the tropical archipelago. The airport on Providenciales has resumed operations, with safety conditions in place for arriving passengers, while beaches, pubs and restaurants have also reopened for business.

“We are very excited to welcome back friends and guests to Turks & Caicos,” says Sean O’Neill, Managing Director of The Agency Turks & Caicos. “We have had a number of months to reflect on what makes this place so uniquely special, and we are happy that so many people feel the same passion, given the number of visitors who wish to return.” Sean also noted that interest in real estate and vacation rentals continues to rise, as well as referrals from The Agency global offices, as clients worldwide seek a Caribbean island escape.

As the borders reopened, The Agency Turks & Caicos Q2 2020 Report was released, showing that despite borders being closed for nearly the entire quarter, the real estate market performed very well. The 50% reduction in Stamp Duty by the government helped ensure that properties already under contract closed and encouraged prospective buyers to make offers on others, the report notes. The second quarter saw a 20% increase in the average sale price compared to 2019, even if the overall number of sales dropped. The single-family home market, driven largely by the luxury home sector, buoyed the market, as buyers from around the world put a premium on space.

“People are now realizing that they can work remotely far more easily than they thought, permitting a shift from urban centers to lifestyle destinations such as Turks & Caicos, and we feel this movement will continue in 2020,” says Managing Director Ian Hurdle. Read the full Q2 2020 report here.
