A Queen Anne-style building, iron-framed red brick and brownstone-colored terra cotta, the elaborately detailed structure is called the Potter Building, after the real estate investor and politician Orlando B. Potter, who commissioned its construction in the mid-1880's. The ground level load bearing walls are 40 inches thick.
