There’s an art to displaying art, and a home’s interior can serve as the perfect backdrop. Proving this point is the stylish accent wall of a Chicago loft that we recently discovered.
The multi-level space, located in a famous building that once housed the National Biscuit Company in the West Loop neighborhood, is as fundamentally ‘industrial chic’ as it gets. An array of materials and textiles, including exposed brick and hardwood floors, helps to “reduce the scale of the place and give it a homely look,” states the article.
The most striking feature lies in the main living room’s towering accent wall. Made entirely of reclaimed wood, the wall transforms into a gallery to display some of the owner’s guitar collection. It’s a point of marvel for guests congregating in the adjoining living room.
We are reminded of some of our own listings that take full advantage of their hallways and walls to showcase beautiful art, like 1232 Sunset Plaza (at left), 1201 Laurel Way (above) or 9133 Oriole Way, the latter of which makes a strong case for displaying a single piece of art after a flight of stairs, creating a dramatic reveal once you reach the top.
And at 2009 La Mesa Drive in Santa Monica, three identical frames line the opposing wall of a glamorous dining room, making you feel as if you are dining in the company of three of the greatest rock stars.
These compelling examples remind us that we should never be far away from our passions, pursuits, or even collectables. Architecture and design can help tell our life story in beautiful and captivating ways.
