Palm Springs Modernism Week Celebrates 10th Anniversary

by | Feb 5, 2015

Modernism Week is back, and it’s turning 10. The 10th annual festival celebrating Modernist art, fashion and architecture kicks off this coming Thursday, Feb. 12, and runs for 10 days packed with architectural tours, talks, live music and film screenings.

The celebration, which takes place in and around Modernist mecca Palm Springs, draws thousands of design aficionados annually, and is the perfect excuse to spend a weekend in that architecturally-Dow_Home_Studio_Walsh_Full_Verticalrich and picturesque community. There are many iconic places to stay, including The Parker Palm Springs, with its hip interiors by designer Jonathan Adler, and the Colony Palms Hotel, with eye-catching spaces designed by AD100 decorator Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and even the candy-colored rooms at the new hotel Saguaro.

This year Modernism Week will feature “more than 100 events including the Modernism Show, home tours, films, lectures, double decker bus tours, parties, walking and bike tours, a pre-fab showcase, vintage fashion, live music events, a vintage travel trailer exhibition, and more” (source: website). Some of the CCHouse-600x450proceeds go to providing scholarships for local architecture students, as well as “supporting local and state preservation organizations in their efforts to preserve modernist architecture throughout the state of California.”
