Michelin, the publisher of exclusive annual restaurant and hotel guides for more than 100 years, recently released their 2016 stars for Hong Kong and Macau. Michelin Guides are synonymous with culinary experiences that are above and beyond the ordinary, and only a handful of cities throughout the world are featured. In addition to Hong Kong and Macau, the coveted Michelin Guides focus on cities including Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Kyoto and Hokkaido.
Completely incognito and anonymous reviewers called Michelin “inspectors” found just one restaurant featured in the Hong Kong and Macau handbook worthy to be increased from two- to the coveted three-star rating. Langham Hotel’s T’ang Court offers Cantonese cuisine that is “perfectly prepared with harmonious flavors and different textures bringing depth and perfect balance on the plate, ” said Michael Ellis, International Director Michelin Guides. In Hong Kong, Forum and Ming Court both received two stars, in Macau, Jade Dragon and French restaurant The Tasting Room.
Eleven other restaurants received a one-star rating and for the first time ever Michelin recognized popular Hong Kong “street food” with its own section, adding 23 Hong Kong and 12 Macau locations.
