The Demand For Supercars Has Never Been Stronger

by | Jan 20, 2016

The 2016 McLaren 675LT epitomizes the advancement of performance, style and technology of today’s supercars. Weighing in at a lithe 2,927 pounds, the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 meanders from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, topping out at 205 mph.

Blog_McLaren2While the 675LT is incredible on many levels, it’s just a small example of the strides presently being made at McLaren Automotive. The company is growing wildly. U.S. dealers have increased from 9 in 2011 to 20 today, with a plan to increase to around 30, including a few in Canada. While employee count has increased, the largest explosion has been in product development. In 2011, McLaren had just one U.S. model, the McLaren MP4-12C. Today, there are four ranging from the $1.3 million dollar McLaren P1 to the $185,000 570S, with the $268,000 650S and $350,000 675 LT filling in the middle.

“The demand for supercars has never been stronger,” said McLaren North America President Tony Joseph. McLaren sold its first modern car to a U.S. customer just over four years ago, an MP4-12C on December 4, 2011. Last year, the company sold 550 cars in the U.S., and it would have sold more this year, however global demand forced the reallocation of production. The U.S. represents about 30 percent of global demand, with San Francisco, Southern California and New York being the largest markets.
