New L.A. Restaurant Estrella Pays Homage To 1960s Laurel Canyon

by | Jan 4, 2016

Estrella is the newest dining and drinking gem on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. Tucked behind a green wall on the ground floor of the IAC building, the restaurant has been created as an homage to all things Laurel Canyon in the 60s and 70s. Blog_Estrella7Drawing design inspiration from the famed Laurel Canyon bungalow culture of the 60s and 70s, epitomized by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Frank Zappa, Estrella creates a warm, inviting retreat from the hustle and bustle of Sunset Blvd.

Herringbone brick and lush landscaping anchor the wraparound patio, letting rose, turquoise, and pearl tones set the mood. An outdoor fireplace and eclectic chandeliers illuminate Estrella throwing a warm glow upon both intimate and communal dining arrangements composed of various custom furniture styles and seating heights. Custom made steel French doors lead to the interior where warm woods envelop the room letting the lived-in, boho-chic aesthetic flow freely.

In the center, the bar and semi-open kitchen anchor the space, just as they would in one’s home. The central bar is an eye-catching Blog_Estrella5=mural of hand-painted tiles topped with a thick Walnut slab – making it the perfect place to grab one of mixologist Gia St. George’s cocktails or a full meal. At the back of the restaurant, a 60-person theater adds a touch of Hollywood flair – featuring hunter green sofa seating and copper accents.  The theater and its adjacent private lounge play host to chic private screenings as well as a forthcoming roster of public film screenings and live acoustic shows.

The food comes by way of Top Chef alum Dakota Weiss who has created a New American menu with a sense of adventure highlighting California’s finest ingredients from breakfast through to dinner. From poached egg inside a bacon-wrapped avocado at brunch to the poké Blog_Estrella6Nicoise salad at lunch through to the tempura-fried chicken with honey-curry confit at dinner, Weiss’ deftness in the kitchen is sure to satisfy any palate. An expertly curated list of both international and local wines from limited supply and rare vintages make for a perfect pairing with the food.

Estrella is located at 8800 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood CA 90069 and is open for breakfast starting at 7am during the week with lunch at 11.30am and dinner commencing at 5.30pm. Brunch on the weekends runs from 10am to 3pm. Valet parking is free for breakfast, brunch and dinner. Reservations are encouraged.
