Park City Wraps A Historic First Season As The Country’s Biggest Ski Resort

by | Apr 28, 2016

The lifts have closed, the Utah powder is quickly melting from the slopes, and the numbers are in on Park City’s inaugural season as the largest mountain resort in the United States. The 2015-2016 season marked the first since Vail Resorts connected Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Village by constructing the 1.5-mile long Quicksilver Gondola. Park City Resort now spans 7,300 skiable acres, 300 runs, 17 peaks, six terrain parks and a whopping 41 lifts and gondolas, living up to its new tagline, “There is only one. Park City.”

On the heels of its initial $50 million capital improvement project, Vail Resorts reported “double-digit” visitation and revenue growth at Park City Resort for the quarter ending January 31. According to the Park City Chamber/Bureau, March numbers show bookings up nearly every day over the year before. The new Park City offers enough terrain, adventure and amenities to impress ski-enthusiasts who come from all over the world to enjoy the average 360” of annual Utah powder. It also helps to be the most accessible ski destination in the country, located just 32 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Blog_Apex_2It was the high-speed Quicksilver Gondola that turned Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Village into one giant ski terrain, with an eight-and-a-half minute ride over the gap that used to separate the resorts. Riders can now exit mid-station and ski down two new intermediate runs to reach Canyon Village. Also ahead of the season, two other lifts were upgraded to high-speed, detachable lifts, additional snowmaking machines were installed and new dining facilities were added, including Miners Camp next to Quicksilver. Park City is also now part of Vail Resorts’ Epic Pass program which includes 11 resorts, such as Vail, Beaver Creek and Breckenridge.

Plans are now in the works for a major revitalization project in Canyons Village, the first base area to welcome you to Park City. The goal is to transform the area, which boasts its own distinct village vibe and adventure-centric amenities, into a top-tier destination that will define the future of four-season leisure in the United States. A host of new recreational, dining, shopping and family-friendly offerings are currently in the planning phase, with information set to be released to the public in the coming weeks.

At the highest elevation in Canyons Village, a new residential offering, Apex Residences, is poised to redefine the mountain luxury lifestyle in Park City. The ski-through community will feature a collection of 63 slope side residences, townhomes and penthouses.
