Our Top Restaurants For Over-The-Top Caviar

by | Apr 1, 2016

One of the culinary capitals of the world, Los Angeles is a paradise for palates of all kinds. For those who have cultivated a taste for caviar, an ancient Eastern European delicacy, we curated the top four restaurants to satisfy your appetite.

Petrossian Restaurant & Boutique

Described as “a little taste of France on Robertson Boulevard” by the L.A. Times, this West Hollywood restaurant specializes in a diverse selection of the finest caviar and accompaniments to satisfy all tastes. First, drop in early to sip on a Caviartini®, a happy hour favorite made with a CaviarCube® and a caviar-stuffed olive, or test the Caviar Flatbread (crème fraîche, chives, red onion, capers, and crumbled hard-boiled egg) paired with a glass of Rosé. Then, take your pick from caviar pasta, steak tartare and warm blinis, or lobster bread roll with uni. Purists may indulge in a lavish selection of 30g (or 50g special reserve) presentations—a nutty Transmontanus, fresh and fruity Ossetra, dry fruit and “taste of the sea” Shassetra, or creamy, nutty and buttery Kaluga Husso Hybrid—served with blinis, toast points and Créme Fraîche. Spread the love of black pearls with a luxurious gift of Petrossian’s Caviar 301, a seven-course tasting of premium caviar dishes, offered every third Thursday of the month.

Mélisse

A two-star Michelin restaurant in Santa Monica, Mélisse caters to appetites of all sizes, serving four-course to fifteen-course meals. Its signature Egg Caviar, a soft poached egg with caviar and lemon-chive crème fraîche served in an egg shell, is a longstanding, best-loved selection. The chic ambiance also complements a seasonally available truffle menu, cheese courses, and world-class wine selection to present a truly special fine dining experience. Owner/chef Josiah Citrin also offers his own cookbook so you can impress at your next dinner party.

SAAM

Located in the SLS Hotel in Beverly Grove, SAAM is renowned for its creative, playful menu that delights patrons experiencing “familiar foods in new and creative ways.” Top picks include José’s Combination, an appetizer of Iberico Jamon, a fine Spanish cured ham, “rolled like a cigar” around Osetra Caviar, washed down with Kaviar Kir Royale, a sparkling wine of caviar bubbles made of crème de cassis. In addition to caviar specialties, the culinary team puts a spin on simple traditional dishes, from Peking Dumplings made of cotton candy and Dragon’s Breath Popcorn that will have you breathing nitrogen from your nose, to Bahn Mi sandwiches of fried brioche and tofu and liquid mozzarella balls that melt in your mouth. For adventurous foodies, SAAM offers a 22-course tasting menu to explore the world of molecular gastronomy.

Tres By José Andrés

Another innovative restaurant in the SLS Hotel, Tres By José Andrés presents an array of traditional California cuisine with a twist, offering American caviar served on freshly steamed buns, with eggs and patatas, in dumplings, or with a spread of charcuterie. Tres By José Andrés is a casual option perfect for brunch or afternoon tea.

If you find yourself craving caviar on-the-go, Beverly Hills Caviar has installed specialty vending machines in three Los Angeles malls offering the world’s finest selection of caviar along with truffles, escargot, bottarga, blinis, and oils, as well as Mother of Pearl plates and spoons.
