Local Artists Help Vica Silver Lake Add Color and Creativity to Sunset Boulevard

by | Apr 12, 2018

The developers of Vica Silver Lake, the first new condominium development in L.A.’s beloved neighborhood in nearly a decade, wanted their boutique project to resemble and enhance the rich cultural fabric of community from the very start. Silver Lake has long been a hub of culture and creativity, with a dynamic essence that’s artistic and eclectic in nature. No ordinary condominium development, Vica was thoughtfully envisioned to capture and highlight this essence, creating a living experience and community gathering place that articulates the style and personality of the community.

When construction began on Vica’s 31 contemporary residences and 3,000-square-foot retail space, developers Barth Partners of Los Angeles and Barry Leddy Developments of Ireland saw an opportunity to bring a spirited public art display that would front Sunset Boulevard. They engaged local street artists to create visually appealing construction barriers adorned with colorful murals for the public to enjoy. Hundreds of people stop by the site daily to admire the bright pink murals highlighted with colorful characters, including the “Siren of Silver Lake.” Among the artists featured are Luke Pelletier, Jillian Evelyn, Upendo Taylor, Lauren YS, Matt Gondek, and Cheyne Ellett.

“A development must bring something to the community, even during the construction phase. We wanted to contribute to the Silver Lake experience right from the start by honoring the creative spirit and eclectic character of the neighborhood,” explains Justin Barth, principal of Barth Partners. “Our vision for Vica was to integrate with the look and feel of the community from an architectural standpoint and by creating lifestyle amenities that would engage both our residents and our Silver Lake neighbors.”

Open, airy architecture will live lightly on the land and blend with its surroundings, featuring drought-resistant landscaping, such as a living green wall, succulents and olive trees. Warm, textural interiors will showcase fit and finishes curated by the renowned Loraline Design. Studio, one- and two-bedroom residences will feature clean lines, soothing aesthetics, floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious private patios. Several penthouse residences will boast private rooftop terraces with sweeping views of the neighborhood and the Downtown Los Angeles skyline.

Offering an experience akin to that of a luxury, boutique hotel, Vica will offer residents a host of amenities for gathering, unwinding and turnkey living. The Lounge at Vica will be where residents will connect and relax, enjoying indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as fantastic views of the Silver Lake hills. A private pool, spa, fitness studio, meditation garden, bike storage and subterranean parking for residents and their guests are among the amenities. Residents will also enjoy private access from the pool terrace to the ground-floor retail space, which will foster a sense of community by creating a new culinary and social destination for residents of Vica and Silver Lake to enjoy.

Vica is situated in a highly desirable location along Sunset Boulevard, within moments of Silver Lake’s most popular destinations including Sunset Junction, Silver Lake Boulevard, the Micheltorena Stairs and the Silver Lake Reservoir.
