5 Banging Bars in the East Village

by | Feb 6, 2017

Once known for its gritty dive bars, the East Village has matured to encompass wine bars, cocktail dens, and beer gardens. Here are a few of our favorite spots in the East Village.

 BuaBua

Bua’s name is Irish for victory, but this is not your typical Irish bar. The casual bar is softly lit with a simultaneously energetic vibe. Many come to enjoy outdoor seating on the patio or a taste of delicious bar food. Our favorite is the fried cheese curds when we’re not watching our weight!

Good Night SonnyGood Night Sonny

Opened by the same owners of longtime favorite, The Wayland, Good Night Sonny has burst onto 1st Avenue. The cocktail den attracts a variety of scenes – from couples on date night to rowdy crowds – with experimental cocktails and tasty raw bar offerings. We recommend the oyster happy hour for some $1 oysters and well-crafted drinks.

d.b.a.d.b.a.

This spacious spot is every beer (and dog) lover’s dream. d.b.a. carries more than 200 beers, while welcoming man’s best friend onto the comfortable back patio. They also let you order in your favorite food. So grab your dog, a friend, a beer, call your favorite delivery joint, and stay a while.

Amor y AmargoAmor y Amargo

Love and bitterness. All of the cocktails made in this dozen-seat tasting room are based around a single subject: bitters. The cocktails aren’t cheap, but they’re quality concoctions if you’re into experimentation or are a bit of a booze nerd. Plus the Sharpie Mustache is served out of a bottle with a mustache on it.

Fat BuddhaFad Buddha

Our final recommendation is an Asian fusion bar that shows you how to live fat. If you come during happy hour, be sure to try the wings and pork buns. If you stay for the night, be ready to dance to a mix of 90s and current hip-hop.
