5 Dynamic Vehicles that Turn Winter Driving into a Delight

by | Jan 24, 2024

Once the swelter of summer subsides and the chill of winter sets in, the car-brained often gravitate toward a rather specific strain of vehicles. The phenomenon is as natural as a planet tilt or an avian migration, a seasonal shift that separates the pros from the putterers. These five dynamic vehicles featured in the Winter 2023/2024 issue of The Agency Magazine will turn tackling winter’s inclement weather into a delight.

Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen

Originally developed as a rugged military appliance, the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen (from $140,000) has evolved into an urban staple thanks to posh associations that have expanded in spite of, not because of, its brilliant off-road capability. Though its boxy silhouette stokes nostalgia, the G-Wagen’s purposeful underpinnings were famously forged on Austria’s Schöckl Mountain, a 4,740-foot-high crucible that ensures this iconic truck can traverse virtually any off-road obstacle.

Polaris Timbersled

For a Bond-worthy experience, the Polaris Timbersled (from $2,300) offers a kit that morphs ordinary dirt bikes into cycles boasting front skis and a track-driven rear end. Simply remove the wheels and install the kit and take on everything from a snow-covered gravel pit to a ravine. A youth kit is also available, so that the whole family can enjoy.

Sherp Pro

For those looking for an extreme rig, the Sherp Pro ($115,000) is a sci-fi-ish all-terrain vehicle that can literally go anywhere. Packing massive tires and a squared-off body that appears to have been plucked from a Mars rover, this tenacious implement claims a mild 55 horsepower but can wriggle through snowbanks and use its hermetically sealed chassis to paddle through water at speeds up to 4 mph.

Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric Vehicle

Tipping a hat to the iconic 1960s buggies driven by everyone from Elvis to Steve McQueen, the new Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric Vehicle (price to be announced) will incorporate high-end features, like twin motors and independent suspension. The battery-powered Manxes, hiding cutting-edge tech beneath their nostalgic styling, will look as comfortable as the classics on the groomed slopes of Saint Moritz and in the wilds of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato

The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato (from $279,000) is an off-road-themed swan song to the traditional Huracán model and will see only 1,499 examples ever produced. Riding on all-terrain tires and powered by a snorty 10-cylinder engine, the Sterrato mixes unlikely metaphors by combining the shock and awe of a supercar with the vibe of a rally racer. Planning high-paced Denver-to- Aspen runs? The Sterrato rides 44 mm higher than the traditional Huracán yet has a max speed of 161.5 mph.
