Welcome to The Edge, the epitome of refined living in Malibu, the Golden State’s most iconic coastal destination. Designed by Scott Gillen —Malibu’s foremost designer and builder of luxury homes—this newly completed, turnkey estate exemplifies architectural brilliance and timeless elegance. Living on the edge never looked so good.

Set on 2.6 acres atop a pristine bluff overlooking Malibu Colony Beach, The Edge is steeped in mid-century-inspired design and presents cinematic views of the coastline and sapphire blue Pacific. The Edge, one of the five estates at The Case, a 24-acre, guard-gated enclave in the heart of Malibu, was created to provide residents with unparalleled privacy and convenience.

The Edge’s 10,527 square feet of open-concept living spaces seamlessly integrate with the outdoors, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living,  epitomizing the coveted Malibu lifestyle. Inside, find five bedrooms and eight baths, breathtaking design details, custom-crafted features and meticulously curated furnishings.

To help us get a deeper understanding of The Edge, The Case and the Malibu real estate market today, we spoke with The Agency’s Founding Partner, Paul Lester and The Agency Malibu’s Managing Director and lifelong Malibu resident, Sandro Dazzan, who represent this distinct listing.

The Edge is set within The Case, a private, guard-gated community. What is unique about this particular enclave?

Sandro: The Case is the premiere guard-gated community in central Malibu. It’s just minutes from the best of Malibu—the Country Mart, world-class beaches such as Malibu Colony and Malibu Road, plus iconic restaurants like Nobu. New construction is very hard to come by in Malibu because of the difficulties in the approval and permitting process, it took over 11 years just to get this project approved.

Paul: This is certainly a one-of-a-kind opportunity to live in close proximity to all that Malibu has to offer. The Case was the last undeveloped bluff top in Malibu that could accommodate five estate-size lots and homes and the fact that it is guard gated is extraordinary. The Case presents an opportunity to have first ownership in expertly curated, new construction single-story estates. Every home also offers uncompromised views of the ocean and mountains plus magnificent pools and oversized decks to enjoy what we love so much about Malibu,  a life immersed in its natural beauty with your family and friends.

The Malibu real estate market has been buzzing lately. What do you think is attracting buyers right now?

SANDRO: Malibu is so desirable because of the relaxed, rural beach lifestyle it offers, plus it’s only 45 minutes from one of the best metropolitan cities in the world, Los Angeles. The weather, dining and access to some of the best beaches and mountains make it a year-round destination for the wealthiest people in the world.

PAUL: Malibu has a unique combination of exceptional sand and surf beaches. There are less than a handful of available opportunities on several oceanside bluffs that offer estate compounds that are either legacy properties now or will become legacy ownership in the next decade. Such properties are rare, and The Case and The Edge fall into this category. Notably, Malibu has seen a recent influx, which is continuing, of new high-end food and retail that mingles old-school, local family-owned businesses with a new cosmopolitan atmosphere comparable to other micro resort towns throughout the world. Malibu is also unique in that it is no longer seen as a seasonal destination but as a year-round lifestyle. New residents of Malibu are investing significantly in long-term ownership to take advantage of legacy properties that are becoming their primary homes.

Ocean views abound from the open-plan living and family rooms.

If you lived at The Edge, where in the house would you spend the most time?

Sandro: Spending time outside is what life is all about here in Malibu—so I would be by the pool and outdoor chef’s kitchen relaxing with friends and family, probably playing bocce ball. Then I would be enjoying the incredible sunsets next to the fire pit while listening to the waves crashing below.

Paul:  Honestly if I could capture one moment to relive again and again it would be the second you arrive when the massive teak entrance door swings open. At that very moment, you can see through the glass wall of the home’s living room, across the distance of the infinity pool and as it reaches toward the Pacific Ocean beyond.  That is why Scott named this house The Edge. Truly epic.
