Leadership Spotlight: Rainy Hake Austin, President of The Agency

by | Mar 4, 2024

It’s International Women’s Month and The Agency has incredible female talent and leadership at its helm. Noteworthy is Rainy Hake Austin, President of The Agency and an all-around incredible woman.

Rainy had an impressive year. She was named Executive of the Year at the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Women’s Leadership & Symposium Awards 2023 and continued to oversee all of The Agency’s business lines from residential to commercial and new development, ancillary services and global expansion. And she’s a mother to her two young daughters.

“While I love beautiful homes, architecture and the lifestyle aspects of the real estate industry,” said Rainy to Capture Magazine. “What brings me joy is providing an infrastructure that allows our agents to create memorable experiences and greater service for our clients. My passion is solving problems and creating exceptional experiences.”

Rainy fell into real estate at a young age and never fell out. She started on the marketing and operations side of the business and quickly moved into management, working her way up from Office Coordinator to Office Manager and then to VP of Marketing. She eventually took over running all elements of operations, from marketing, technology and training to sales and compliance as EVP, COO and Broker of Record. And now, we’re lucky enough to have her as our fearless leader today.

Since she joined The Agency in 2020, the boutique brokerage has grown to 100+ offices across 12 countries and counting.

“We are intentional about making sure female voices are heard and amplified at The Agency,” said Rainy. “Half our leadership team and 71% of our staff overall are female.”

“Rainy is the heartbeat of The Agency,” said Mauricio Umansky, Founder and CEO. “She takes goals and ideas and turns them into strategic plans of action. I’ve learned a great deal from working alongside her and am grateful to have her as a thought partner and friend.”

Rainy’s Top 3 Leadership Takeaways

  1. Kindness is always first. Doing good is good business.
  2. Every task and challenge is just a problem to be solved. Approach everything as a creative problem solver.
  3. Goals are important but are only a road map. Be present and experience life as it happens. Allow your vision to grow, expand and change.
